
Exam Codes
CompTIA A+ 220-1001 (Core 1) and 220-1002 (Core 2)
The new A+ exams were introduced on January 15th, 2019. Candidates are required to pass both 1001 and 1002 to exams to earn the A+ certification.
Cost
The cost for each exam is $219 USD. We recommend buying vouchers from a known company as they offer better options as a combo price for the exams. Many exam vouchers gives you the option of retaking the exam in case of a first unsuccessful attempt.
Description
CompTIA A+ 220-1001 covers mobile devices, networking technology, hardware, virtualization and cloud computing and network troubleshooting. CompTIA A+ 220-1002 covers installing and configuring operating systems, expanded security, software troubleshooting and operational procedures.
Number of Questions
Maximum number of questions are 90.
Length of Exam
The duration of each exam is 90 minutes.
Passing Score
Although the allocated time and the number of questions are the same for both the exams, the passing scores are different for both the exams.
220-1001: 675 (on a scale of 100-900)
220-1002: 700 (on a scale of 100-900)
Types of Questions
Multiple choice questions (single and multiple response), drag and drops and performance-based questions (PBQs). The PBQs based questions test the ability of the candidate to solve problems in a simulated environment. The sturcture of PBQs are often an approximation of a virtual environment, such as a network diagram, terminal window, or an operating system.
Languages
English is the primary language with more language options being introduced by CompTIA at their own discretion.
Recommended Experience
Although the recommended experience prior to appearing before the exam as suggested by CompTIA is about 9 to 12 months of hands on activity, aspiring A+ Technicians have known to pass the exam after studying full time for 4 to 6 weeks.
Retirement of the Exams
CompTIA usually retires the old exams after three years.
